I'm surprised not to see the name "Jerry Hughes" in the Colts chapter. His trade fits quite well with the theme.

I did think about bringing Hughes into the fold, but at the time he was traded, he really had little that pointed to him becoming a successful player. I'd score that as more of a win for the Bills than a loss for the Colts. (Though it is amusing that a "scouting" GM failed to realize Hughes' potential.)

Jeff Feagles was the last Tecmo Super Bowl player to hang ‘em up. Vinatieri has a shot to be the last player mentioned in the first Pro Football Prospectus to do the same.

John Carney played two games for the Saints in 2010, one year after Feagles (and Junior Seau) retired.

Good catch.

Gary Busey as Jim Irsay. You're welcome.

I was thinking more an "aged-up" Danny McBride.

Also, Gerard Butler as Luck.

I can agree with the general analysis of the ineptitude of the Colt's front office. (If anything you have been too kind.) Has there ever been a team in the NFL that has made the playoffs like the Colts have in the past fifteen years that has had this kind of "success" in draft, free agency, and trades? Their personnel decisions with the exception of two quarterbacks has been, overall, execrable.

It seems like there ought to be a way given the information you have available to rate the front office decisions of teams over a given period of time. You would probably need to evaluate with a five year delay much like the draft pieces you do annually but it would be interesting to see a team by team rating.

There does appear to be an alchoholic, prescription drug addled elephant in the room that spans both the Polian and Grigson eras who tweets a lot and is getting off scott free from both Rivers' analysis and yours.

Having the Trent Richardson stat line parked right on top of the Donald Brown stat line really does just perfectly display how excrementally awful Richardson is.

I am completely dissatisfied with the pro sample chapter. It should have been the Eagles chapter.

Now I have to wait two more days until the update where I'm told it wont be ready until next Monday...

Something I find amazing is that in these last two regimes, the colts have spent 4 first rounders on running backs. Of course, one was Edgerrin, but it's like they either view the current trend as a fad or are outright blind to it.

Did you guys eliminate the Coaching section of the team chapter? I wanted to read how Pep Hamilton was going to find ways to protect Luck by having Richardson fall down at the line over and over again. :)

Yes, any comments about the coaching staff are now just merged into the essay or the other unit comments.

I was like "Sweet! Free Maryland chapter... OH YEAH :("

So . . . maybe I need to rethink my priorities when the night before the release of the Almanac is the equivalent of Christmas Eve. Nonetheless, the sample chapters are an indicator of great things to come!

I'm in the same boat as you. It's exact same feeling I had from high school through my early 20's, when I was waiting for the new Madden video game to come out.

Have to say...nerd wise...warcraft 3 was my big anticipated can't sleep game of my adolescent years.

by JoeyHarringtonsPiano :: Wed, 07/23/2014 - 10:31am

I'm familiar with the feeling. I've spent many hours, when I should have been catching up on my sleep, trying to figure out a way to deal with Night Elves.

The release of FOA is much better than Christmas.

Possibly pertinent information: I don't celebrate Christmas.

Take my money!
