Fantasy Matchups: Week 7

This week's fantasy matchups has...an error! Yes, believe it or not, an ESPN commenter actually got something right and noticed that my math on Owen Daniels' games were incorrect, and his 16-game line should be 55-692-4. The point, of course, remains the same.

Do I play Lance Moore or Santonio Holmes this week? Moore's been better, Holmes has the more favorable matchup.

by cjfarls :: Thu, 10/16/2008 - 2:42pm

Be wary of Moore, with Colston coming back. I would definitely go with Holmes.

Okay, a sit-start match-up question:

Chris Johnson vs. KC is an obvious start, but for my other RB slot, I get to choose between Slaton vs. DET, or Graham vs. Seattle?.... Any advice?

Also, I have T.Scheffler and Winslow as my TE... sounds great, except neither may play due to injuries. Who is the best waiver pickup (limited options): Ben Watson, Kevin Boss, Donald Lee, Alex Smith? I'm praying this is a 1-week issue, but should I perhaps be thinking longer-term?

by abernethyj :: Thu, 10/16/2008 - 3:28pm

I'd go Slaton, but you can make an argument either way.

Of those four tight ends, I would go with Smith in a heartbeat. He may end up being a long-term solution for you at tight end if Winslow doesn't ever return to form (but I think it's probably still too early to drop him).

FF Poll: Would you trade G.Jennings for M.Forte, straight-up?

I am deep at WR-TE Flex (R.White, J.Witten, D.Driver, J.Galloway) and need help at RB [Westbrook (injuried & on a bye this week), E.Graham, L.McClain (splitting carries)]. The only catch is that the top player at each position at the end of the year gets half of the FF fee back. Jennings is currently leading WRs in my league. What are the odds he continues to lead at the end of the year?

My other option is to deal Driver for C.Buckhalter (to handcuff Westbrook) and possibly pick up a top-flight DEF (mine are horrible).

by cjfarls :: Thu, 10/16/2008 - 4:28pm

Jennings is probably to steep a price for my taste, so if you have a viable other option, I'd go that way. Guess it depends if you think Westbrook will be back and effective sooner than later...

by abernethyj :: Thu, 10/16/2008 - 4:33pm

Outside of White and Witten, that's not a very inspiring set of WRs. I'd keep Jennings and see if you can deal either Galloway or Driver for a lower-end RB.

Can Galloway be counted on to produce this week?

by abernethyj :: Fri, 10/17/2008 - 10:18am

I'd sit him if you have other options (Wide_Right doesn't seem to). He may play, but will be in a limited role if he does.

by Wide_Right :: Fri, 10/17/2008 - 12:26am

Is Joey Galloway worth starting this week? I guess it's sort of moot, since all my backup receivers have byes, but I'll throw the question out nonetheless.

How do you get 17 points from 220 yards and a passing TD?

by abernethyj :: Fri, 10/17/2008 - 12:57pm

20 yds/point, with passing TDs counting as six, would yield 17 points. A league with that kind of scoring would have had all the elite quarterbacks taken in the first two rounds, though.

Quick question: Berrian or Coles to go with Wayne and A. Johnson? (Not too worried, more curious than anything...) Still patting myself on the back for picking up Johnson in a trade in week 3.

by abernethyj :: Fri, 10/17/2008 - 1:01pm

Gotta go with Coles there, his matchup with the Raiders is way better than Berrian's, and he has a better QB throwing him the ball.

I am shocked -- shocked that there are six quarterbacks, including one named Orlovsky playing in his second career game, that are better plays this week than Jay Cutler.

by abernethyj :: Fri, 10/17/2008 - 2:18pm

You've got to take both the man and the matchup into account when you're setting your lineups. Every week, I take stock of who on my roster has done the best so far this season via DYAR, DVOA, EYds, and my league's scoring parameters, and rank them accordingly. I then take into consideration their matchups, and slot in my starters for the week. Just because Cutler has the seventh-best matchup this week doesn't mean he's the seventh-best quarterback in the league, or that he'll end up with the seventh-most points this week.

RB question:

Slaton vs DET or Gore @NYG?

by abernethyj :: Fri, 10/17/2008 - 3:20pm

Tough call. I would go Slaton, with the edge going to the fact that Houston is likely to be winning for much of the game, and will be running, whereas San Francisco will likely be forced to pass for much of the second half.

Which two of these WRs would be best to start (no PPR)?
Moss, Houshmandzadeh, Colston, Galloway

How about which three of the following in a PPR league?
Wayne, Coles, Burress, Galloway, Colston

by abernethyj :: Fri, 10/17/2008 - 4:05pm

Yipes...Houshmandzadeh is a must-start, and I'd probably go with Moss as the second just because his matchup with Denver looks a lot better than Colston's against Carolina. It wouldn't be a stretch to go with Houshmandzadeh and Colston, though.

Wayne, Coles, Burress in the other league, easy.

What do you guys think: Marshawn Lynch vs SD or DeAngelo Williams vs NO? I'm leaning toward Lynch as a must-start, but curious if you all think the matchups make a difference here.

Bonus WR question: Anthony Gonzales vs GB or Rashied Davis vs MIN?

by abernethyj :: Fri, 10/17/2008 - 5:25pm

I'd probably play Lynch there just because he's not splitting carries.

Both have tough matchups, but Gonzalez has been better so far.

I have Eli, Brett and Orton all with pretty good matchups (SF, Oak and Min) who should I start?

by abernethyj :: Sun, 10/19/2008 - 11:59am

I would place them in this order: Favre, Manning, Orton.

ryan grant or mewelde moore?

by abernethyj :: Sun, 10/19/2008 - 12:00pm

Moore. I'm not starting Grant, even against the Raiders, until he shows me he can have consistent value.
