B.S. Report's Smart Guy Wednesday

Former FO writer Bill Barnwell and I both join Bill Simmons to talk about the NFL playoffs on the B.S. Report's "Smart Guy Wednesday." Good way to get some previews of what will be in Friday's FO game previews. Also, I'm honestly curious where Barnwell and I disagree. Now you can find out!

it's a good segment, assuming you can get past the barrage of Umms and You Knows. The Barnwell "you know" drinking game would be the end of fraternity life as we know it. But those time-wasting phrases aside, there's good stuff here.

The Seahawks can get confused by pressures, both at guard and running back.

President's helicopter is Marine One; or rather any Marine Corps aircraft carrying the President is Marine One.

I heard something like:

"Winfield won't play this weekend because he broke his something last week"

When in truth Winfield has not been ruled out despite breaking his hand in week 16 and sitting out only the second half of week 17.

Love FO and it was a good podcast, but the Winfield moment wasn't a great example of this site's staffs' brilliance.

I listen to SG Wednesday for Aaron Schatz only.

Just happy that Mike Lombardi didn't make the cut for "Smart Guy Wednesday"

/yes, I realize he was there on Monday and yes, I actually found him quite good this time.

I should have stopped listening after Aaron left, but for some perverse reason I kept on listening.

Simmons "Schatz was on earlier and said Baltimore was an average team on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball but with terrible special teams."

Barnwell "Yeah, but they have a good kicker."

Aargh. I'll be generous an assume Simmons meant to say terrific, Barnwell went right along with it, which pretty much summed up the superficiality of most all he said. Ah, more wasted time I will never get back.

I cringed at that too. The annoying thing is that it apparently doesn't click with Simba that Baltimore's record corresponds more to "average + average + excellent" rather than "average + average + terrible."

He just vaguely remembers what Aaron said, but isn't making the connection. It's like he didn't really listen and is not thinking at all about what he is saying. Which is somewhat standard for him, I guess.
