Week 6 Rundown

Here's our weekly rundown of upcoming games on FOXSports.com. This week, find out why Joe Gibbs has already lost in Kansas City and why the Broncos seemed more like the Patriots last week than the Patriots did.

Nice piece, only marred by the "Steelers sneak past Chargers" video link on the side. Taken with Banks' article today, I'm pretty sure I'm going to disavow sports media as self-serving, fabricated-storyline driven crap.

Except for this site, of course....

The 96 Cowboys will show up in the Meadowlands while the 96 Patriots are playing in Dallas.

RE: "Of course, those handicappers may have taken a cue from Colts running back Edgerrin James. "Some people are going to be very happy. We covered the spread," Edge said after last week's 28-3 win over the Niners. NFL execs just love it when players talk knowingly about point spreads. Mr. James, Mr. Tagliabue would like to see you in his office."

This is the first time I can recall an NFL player discussing the spread, particularly in-season, immediately after the game. I mean I'm sure some of those old rogues used to, before things became so corporate in the NFL, but really Edge..... after fumbling on the goal line.. hey, wait a minute! You didn't put down a dime on... naah.

"Gibbs' top driver, finished in fourth place behind three members of the Roush Racing team — not to be confused with the Car Acrobatic Team."

I have no idea what that means but I'd bet $$$ it's a Simpsons reference.

"...eliminate negative energy by removing unproductive clutter, like the head coach."

If FO opinion of Tice is accurate, some halfway decent coach is going to get a choice job vacancy, as improving on the Tice legacy would be simplicity itself.

I dunno. The players do seem to like him but that's not enough. He's a good o-line coach, though, I'm sure he'll find work elsewhere. I remember Billick wanted him to be his offensive coordinator when he went to Baltimore in '99.

Car Acrobatic Team is a Speed Racer reference. (Thank you, Google).

See, I could've gone the google route but I choose to show off my lack of knowledge without a safety net.

"Think back-to-back road games don't matter? Watch the footage of that Eagles-Cowboys game again."

Yeah, and maybe that's why the Cowboys looked a little flat against the Raiders. And actually, the Boys (save for the O-line and RB pass blocking) didn't play all that bad - giving up about the same amount points to Randy Moss and Co. as the Patriots, Chiefs, and Eagles defenses had allowed in each of their games. There's no reason to think that the Cowboys aren't a better team than the Giants right now. Well, no reason, that is, other than total DVOA so far... ;-)

Car Acrobatic Team

Awesome. Major points to you, Mike Tanier for a Speed Racer reference! Finally, some inside jokes not aimed at the younger generation.

I have no idea what that means but I’d bet $$$ it’s a Simpsons reference.

Kids these days... :)

A bit off-topic, but click the link in my name...Aaron, et al: can you adjust DPAR to account for "15 year-old girl"?

Mike, it's not that your dig at the refs was out of bounds, it's just that your column showed indisputable evidence of forward momentum while juggling to regain control of the preview and you failed to make a discernible tucking motion to visibly abort the process of picking a winner, thereby making it an incomplete. No wait, it's the open palm rule, and therefore the entire preview is nullified. And, by rule, can't be reviewed, I'm sure...

Re: Coment #12. Apparently, one of my students is amusing himself by calling me a moron on the message boards.

This student has no idea what kind of email I get these days. "Moron" is the nicest thing I have been called since August.

And Speed Racer comments are great when you are trying to hide the fact that you know nothing about NASCAR.
