Report: Curtis Martin Expected to Retire

Not really a surprise, but still worth mentioning ... Martin, one of the most prolific running backs in NFL history, will officially announce the end of his 2006 season today. He has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list since August. Many of his teammates believe this to be the inevitable prelude to retirement - his right knee is "bone-on-bone", according to one unnamed player. The 2004 NFL rushing champ and one of Bill Parcells' all-time favorite players, Martin leaves a great legacy as a player and person. He also awaits (one would think) a no-brainer first-ballot HOF nomination.

Week 9 Odds

I have a question, and I ask this question out of serious curiosity, not a desire to pump my own ego (or the collective ego of Football Outsiders). If you look at the current Las Vegas odds, Pittsburgh is actually favored to beat Denver on Sunday. The current line is somewhere between -2.0 and -3.0 depending on where you look. This just blows me away.

Players Say They Still Listen to Andy

After dropping three games in a row, the Eagles are now 4-4 and face a pretty tough schedule going forward. Despite the recent setbacks, the players say they still have faith in head coach Andy Reid. Reid admits that he needs to "dial up a few more runs" and that the Eagles have taken 20 sacks is a testament to as much. But hey, at least Philly's still in the thick of things in the NFC East. I mean, they could be like that other Pennsylvania team, currently tied for last in the division. (free registration/bugmenot required)

Roethlisberger: 'I'm Embarrassed by the Way I Played'

Sure, the Steelers aren't mathematically out of the playoff picture, but when you only allow 98 yards to the Raiders offense and still lose, it's over. Obviously, Ben Roethlisberger's four interceptions (including two picks-for-six) had a lot to do with the outcome, and frankly, I'm embarrassed for him too.
