This thread is for discussion of action on the field before, during, and after Week 15 of the 2006 NFL season. You can talk about who you think will win or lose before the games start and last-minute news on Sunday morning. Then during the games, discuss strange plays, great performances, and stupid announcers (of which there are plenty). After the day is done, we'll discuss the results of the week Sunday night and Monday before our weekly commentary articles appear.
Please note that there is a separate thread for the Thursday and Saturday night games. A third thread will go up Sunday night for discussion during the Sunday and Monday night games.
Please ask your fantasy football start/bench and waiver wire questions in the discussion thread for Scramble for the Ball.
Is Kirk Cousins the best free-agent quarterback in recent memory? Should Trumaine Johnson or Malcolm Butler have gotten the larger contract? And what makes a free-agent contract good or bad, anyway?
Comments
Can anyone tell me why the Bay area wouldn't get a game in the early Fox slot on sunday? SF played on Thursday, and Oakland plays in the late slot. So why on earth wouldn't we get a game?
It's as if they realized that we weren't getting screwed this week because of the Thursday thing and said "ok we can fix that".
Is it really important that Pitt-Carolina run unopposed on CBS in the early slot in the Bay area??????
I don't know where to put this. While watching Eagles-Redskins last week they showed a replay of the McNabb injury from a different angle.
Some have complained it was a late hit, and even looked like it on TV. From this second angle we see it looks like the Titans DE (93) steps on McNabbs left foot and his right foot slides on the tarp as he is trying to plant it down.
I just thought it was interesting as I hadn't seen any different angles on the play and even I thought the DE gave him a little push. Looks like the DE was trying to hold him up.
... and I can't get over how retarded the play-calling was on the Lewis interception return.
The Redskins have 3rd and 9. They run a single-back, 2 TE formation with Moss split right and Cooley split out left. One TE was #62 who reports as eligible, and the other was Mike Sellers.
And they decide to run a quick slant to Cooley?! Where were the other WRs?!!?!?
There was pretty much no criticism of this formation from the in-game commentary.
Bill
NFL blackout rules... HOME team not sold out means only one game each on CBS and FOX. Now you should actually rejoyce because if Raiders had sold out you will be watching the putrid STL@OAK instead of PHI@NYG though you would have got an earlier FOX game too.
Ok Sambo, I guess I believe you, but I thought the blackout rules only pertained to the televising of the game in question. Isn't the logic to make the local fans go to the game instead of watch it at home?
If they just take away an unrelated game from a different time slot, what on earth does that accomplish? I don't go to StL Oak, so I lose Wash v NO on TV?? Is it just punishment?
The Boston Herald reports that Maroney has a torn rib cartilege and will likely not play tomorrow vs. Houston.
Sambo?! If that's a joke, it's not funny. If you're not joking, that's just sad.
Well with that MIN chance of making it increased 10-15% or so, and ATL is now in real trouble. A win today and it may be smooth sailing :)
Re 5:
I think the idea is that having a doubleheader on provides a disincentive for fans to go see the game in person.
Ugh, the putrid NFC.
I really think the Redskins will give the Saints a good fight. Gibbs' teams shouldn't quit, and I am expecting to see some progress in the offense leading to 2007. Betts and the o-line have been tearing it up... it's just a matter of Campbell clicking with the WRs.
Until last week I don't think I've ever seen a Washington QB throw the "fade-stop" route, and Campbell threw one to ARE and one to Moss... they were beautiful.
Anyway... as normal on these national games the Redskins will probably crush my optimism.
Pre-emptive "Holy $#!T" in case anyone kicks the ball to Devin Hester.
#11
Now he returns kicks aswell, how do you avoid giving him the ball?
Is there a rule against lining up your punt formation staggered by putting your deep snapper second in from the edge of your line and shifting the whole line over toward the sideline. You could then snap the ball on an angle to the punter who is in the middle of the slanted formation. This would get the punter well outside the hashmarks and give him a better chance to kick out of bounds. Most importantly it would avoid punting at Hester.
Is it legal? Anyone know?
#12: Now he returns kicks aswell, how do you avoid giving him the ball?
You kick it out of bounds. Or kick it short and make sure your coverage can get to it - a high kick that travels 30 yards would almost certainly cause either a fair catch or a short gain.
As to the formation, I believe that's not legal, but it hardly matters - directional punting will solve that better than a weird alignment, and I suspect that'll end up in an outside rush that will utterly obliterate the punter.
So, watching the pre-games (I don't know why I do this), I have a question: is "poise" the new "swagger"?
I just picked up Devin Hester in my fantasy league. Week 15, the playoffs start, someone finally picked up Devin Hester.
*Checks Schedule* Let's see, I'm in the New York area, so I see the possibly-important NYJ@MIN and the this'll-be-fun PHI@NYG. Can't wait.
#14: Yes, although Swagger is still around.
Was anyone else suprised by the quality of Deion's performance last night as an analyst during the game?
Woo IRC!
Server bendenweyr.dyndns.org!
Channel #FO!
Anyone else getting screwed by the Time Warner - Fox rift? So there will have been 11 games on between Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday through 1PM PST, and I have had the chance to watch ZERO games at my house, and I pay 55 bucks per month for cable. Where can I vote on ending the NFL's anti-trust exemption?
#18 - Help me out here, I got mIRC but can't find your server.
Do you have to pay for the mIRC thingy?
#17,
Yes, I was. Deion can be pretty good at times.
The Bucs do not kick it to Hester.
About time someone figured that out.
Touchback to Gilmore.
Oh well, they still have Gradkowski at quarterback.
Seriously, never let a Gradkowski do anything for you except make your polish sausages.
Nice to see Chidi back.
#21: No, you do not.
Gah!! Jabar Gaffney, for some reason still running deep routes for the Pats (he is a possession guy, Belichick!) somehow get behind the Texans secondary...and drops the ball.
Ladell Betts is having another big gain.
To start with, an 11-yard run, a 4-yard run, and an 11-yard pass reception.
With that kind of performance, it doesn't make much of a difference that Portis isn't playing.
The 'Skins are driving deep in Saints territory. The 'Skins have moved the ball at will so far.
Bucs @ Bears or Jags @ Titans early, followed by Broncos @ Cardinals or Eagles @ Giants.
Damn, Brad Johnson actually hit a receiver in stride, TD.
Dan Henning starts off with some more brilliant playcalling today. 3rd and 2, long drop and dump pass for a zero gain with only 6 Steelers in the box.
And the Vikings are the first on the scoreboard today.
Johnson throws a 30-yard touchdown pass to Travis Taylor, the Vikes lead 7-0 over the Jets.
Fake punt by the Texans, and they come up short. Well, at least they escaped TMQ's irrational wrath, even if they gave the ball back.
Start your fred taylor hamstring jokes now, he came up lame or he had a chance to go all the way.
The Saints defense stiffens, and the 'Skins choose not to go for it on fourth a short.
The kick was pulled a bit wide left, but it eaked inside the left upright.
'Skins 3, Saints 0.
Pick 6 pacman jones
Fred Taylor hurt, and David Garrard, all he does is win.
Suisham almost pulls the field goal try wide left, and then proceeds to kick the ball out of bounds at about the 20, on the left side, on the kickoff.
So far, it looks like the Steelers O-line didn't really bother to show up.
The Vikings are apparently going to blitz on every down.
Pac-Man Jones is on fire.
Kevin Faulk TD! w00t!
I wonder will Pacman Jones become the thorn in jaguars side like Samari Rolle was for all those years.
TD Bears, and Good Rex makes an early appearance.
New England has a good running game going while the passing game seems anameic. Is there anything new?
Marcus Washington just tried to do his best Demarcus Ware on Michael Vick impersonation.
Seriously, was that not just absolutely sick last night?
Kasay misses a 50 yard FG.
Gamecenter is showing Willis McGahee hurt on a lost fumble. Anyone got more than that?
To paraphrase Major League, regarding the Tennessee Titans, "these guys ain't half-f*cking sh*tty."
A reverse, er, end around, by the Steelers gets nothing. They look anemic on offense today.
Carr just got picked by Richard Seymour! Pats in Texans territory again.
Rushing TD by the Jets against the Vikings, just as the announcers are praising how historically good the Vike's run defense is (54 yds allowed/game).
Jets get a rushing TD up the middle from the 6.
Da Bears!
Grossman to Clark for a 24-yard touchdown pass.
7-0, Da Bears!
Re:#49
It looked to me like Washington could have picked up maybe 2 or 3 yards if he had just kept running diagonally towards the sidelines, but instead, he just sort of stopped and let himself be tackled.
Reality Check: At 4/7 for 21 yds - Tom Brady, your numbers are as good as David Carr. Short passes on checks
I like how the announcers keep saying that the titans have a better run defense than the colts.. well so do I
Favre sacked, fumbles. Yawn! Anything new around?
#57: The Pats are winning.
I don't know if "anemic" really covers what the Steelers offense has been so far.
Three possessions, three and out all three times, for a combined total of -1 yards of offense.
Kitna might be the worst game manager in NFL!
Sorry, i forgot about Brad Johnson!
Mcgahee is being held out for "head and neck" injuries.
57,
You can just tell how much fun Brett Favre is having when he is playing this game.
MJD scores again on the 12yard run up the middle.
Terrible tackling by the Pats on a slant route by some guy just off the practice squad. Ye gods.
My money says that Favre will be given a chance for passing TD
Re:#62
Does each turnover boost his Funometer rating?
#58: I wish the Pats offense shows up one more time before the season ends.
Woohoo! James Sanders picks off the great David Carr!
Carr., Intercepted. Thank the NE Defense
Of course.
Every time the Packers are hopeless in yet another game, largely due to turnovers, and Favre flings up a wounded duck that somehow gets caught, he gets this big sh*t-eating grin on his face, and you can just tell how much he loves to play this game.
It's Kevin Faulk day at Gillette!
Anyone know why Boller's in the BAL-CLE game? GameCenter didn't say McNair was hurt.
Faulk for 43 yds? Can someone explain the play for me please?
Richard Marshall is the cure for the Steelers poor offensive play.
Holmes was wide open in the endzone, but overthrown by Ben. However, Carolina got hit with a pass interference- probably what caused the pass to be overthrown.
Fumbled snap on an attempted FG by the Jets.
McNair was indeed hurt -- he was hit as he threw and a Browns defender (unintentionally) stomped on his throwing hand.
OMG, are you serious?
Boller is playing, and the Ravens are winning?
I know it's the Browns, at home, but still.
Re: 72
It was a screen pass, and the Texans couldn't tackle Faulk for some reason. In fairness to Kevin, he made some good moves.
Santana Moss 31yard td, beautiful playaction pass.
To counteract the "don't kick to Devin Hester" strategy, Devin Hester is now also doing punt returns.
Jason Campbell is freeeeeeee!
Horrible screen attempt by the Steelers.
Damn it.
10-0 Redskins.
Saints look awful. WTF?
73: Aint this Richard Marshall the rookie CB?
77: Give it time.
Which is made up for on a screen to Poop which goes all the way to the 2 yard line.
Re #61, Thanks. Doesn't sound like McGahee's coming back.
Saints have committed a fair number of dumb penalties. If they can calm down they can get right back in the game.
wow! it 10-0 in the superdome? Did the saints leave a lot in their Sunday night match against the dallas last week?
Jets sack Brad to force the 2nd 3 and out in a row.
I don't wish to alarm anyone...
But apparently Boller's doing well. He play in limited time this year reminds me of the favorable projection FP 2006 gave him. Could FO have been right?
Announcer in Jets game calls Shaun Ellis "Greg", confusing him with the Dallas Cowboys defender.
Ben bootleg; Ben TD!
Please please PLEASE bring in Brooks Bollinger against the Jets.
Dang it, that should say "his play..."
Ugh. The Texans just cut down Dillon 5 yards behind the LOS.
Big Ben runs it in.
Every game Campbell starts, it's clearer that he should have been the starter on day one of the season. He may not be the best young QB in the league but he has transformed the offense.
Boller is 4-5 today for 41 yards.
Weinke is 6-7 today for 41 yards.
Seriously, guys, what the f*ck is going on?
Something is up.
Reggie Bush's position is "playmaker." Great.
The sad part is that inspite of a great year, Colvin won't make the Probowl. Shawm Merriman, Phillips (Both SD), A THomas (BAL) are right up there in terms of recall. And they do deserve to be above Colvin
If anyone gets any more info on the severity of McNair's injury I'd appreciate an update. I have a fair bit of faith that Boller will do just fine, but still...
101: He's still in the locker room. I suspect he's done until halftime at the very least.
#98: Brad Johnson is 4-4 with a touchdown, averaging nearly 10 yards per completion.
Oh yeah, for those wondering, Favre is having a ton of fun playing this game today.
He's 2-7 for 14 yards.
I wonder if his mind is pre-occupied? Maybe he has another heartburn medication commercial being taped tomorrow.
Wonder if he's having the boys over for crawfish on day two again?
Oh my! A Jeff Reed touchback?! I can probably count those on one hand.
re: 100
Thomas is going to haul in a pretty good contract at the end of the year.
Boller just threw a TD pass, and the skies are darkening over Babylon.
Dang it, Henderson.
Would have been first and goal at about the 5 for the Saints, and Henderson stone hands it.
Great throw by Brees.
The Saints are killing themselves today.
I wish to volunteer myself for the Jaguars. I can be completed trusted to hand-off the ball to the running backs and all i do is win games for you doing it!
ps: atleast i dont throw interceptions when you ask me to check for wind movements
re: 105
On the radio broadcast, they said that was only Reed's 3rd touchback on the year, tying him for 27th in the league.
Shawn Merriman in the Pro Bowl when he missed 4 games due to a steroid suspension? I'll accept that when you can explain to me how he could contribute as much in 12 games as everybody else could in 16.
who is b. graham having 2/3 for 15 yds for the NY jets. Never heard of him.
The announcers in the Steelers/Panthers game have no idea who anyone on the field is. They have misidentified or misnomered about ten players already.
I missed something. Where did Pennington go?
FOX is listing Ben Graham (Jets punter) as 2-3 for 15 yards passing. I don't remember that happening.
^ But do you have poise?
No Mellancamp songs today, as of yet.
Good deal.
I don't know if I can afford another TV if I have to shoot yet another TV set to shut up that God awful, "This is our country..." crap.
You do realize that Merriman leads the league in sacks right?
The announcers are correct that Vince Young is off to a slow start, but its probably because he's only been allowed to throw 1 screen pass.
that referenced 108
David Martin drops a TD pass right in his stomach and nary a whisper from the nattering nabobs.
is b.graham a mistake? NFL gamecenter shows that. are all the NYJ QBs down?
Re:#112
That last catch, I think they referred to the guy as "Keyshawn Foster" though I suppose it could have been "DeShaun." In any event, it was Drew Carter.
Ah there we go, they dropped Graham except for 1. He must be the holder.
Graham's stats are errors. Pennington has thrown all the passes.
I think the fact that Merriman was suspended for steroid use should disqualify him from making the pro-bowl.
The famed 'double-reverse' for the Saints (no... not really).
Whenever someone other than the #1 QB throws a pass, it seems to take awhile before the Yahoo stat trackers switch the default passer back to the regular QB. Graham threw a pass on a botched FG. I assume nothing's happenned to Pennington.
It has to be, I'm watching the game and looking at the play-by-play, and I only remember one pass by Graham and it was incomplete.
115/119: Lots of poise. Also, i can be a leader in the huddle. I have proven "IT" factor!
ps: i am rolling on the floor with laughter tying that in!!
Joey Harrington is 3-7 for 7 yards.
The Bills have good field position now though, starting at their own 45.
#117 - Well, actually I didn't, but I still think my point stands, especially because he missed those games because of his own actions.
I do expect him to make the Pro Bowl, I'm just preemptively complaining about it.
Deuce runs it in from the 1 and the Saints have woken up.
Weinke hasn't looked this good since his Criminole days.
wow! the pats starting on the 31 yd line. i need a TD on this one. Not a FG
2-8-WAS 23 (12:17) R.Bush right end to WAS 24 for -1 yards (A.Carter). Double-reverse, Brees hands off to Copper sweeping left, Copper laterals to Bush, left-to-right, double reverse.
TMQ: End-around/reverse/double-reverse autotext on standby!
Titans stopped on 4th and 1, and some guy name deuce scored in the saints game.
NowTHAT was a bad pass by number 4. Yuck....
i didnt realize that the JAX-TEN match pitted 2 QBs who 'just win games'.
Free any other QB on the Vikings!!
And the Jets officially get the better end of the C.J. Mosley/Bollinger deal as Mosley sacks Brad Johnson.
Parker with a nice stiff-arm. That's a positive development.
#138: Free Brooks Bollinger!
Ah yes, the 2 yard checkdown on 3rd and long.
Cedrick Wilson pulls a Randel-El.
Brady. DONT RUN! This is the Texans and you are too valuable to risk any injury in this game
And trick plays are back!
Cedrick Wilson to Hines Ward for 21 yards.
I think they just misidentified Cedrick Wilson too, but I have no idea what they called him.
Seriously, if Dimple Chin gets hurt against the Texans, it won't be pretty with Rusher McFumbles in the play-offs.
NO Saint defense had an intensive training session with the Colts defense. Thank you very much!
Now we cant tackle a dummy!
Rusher McFumbles is the Quarterback Of The Future.
Re: 146
Perhaps someone pranked them and they're reading off names from the JAC-TEN game.
20-0 Pats.
I like Davenport, but he's not too hot with the short yardage.
rusher mcfumble! that was really good!
Tampa starting a drive on the Chicago 26. Best starting field position of the week for any game thus far.
TB starts on CHI 26. Something tells me it is either a missed FG from here or a CHI INT returned for TD
Cripes. Packers and Lions are trying to out ugly one another.
I am all for Jon Kitna as the Lions QB but no Detroit fan can favor that idea.
Anyone else recall Kitna rejecting 9 mill a year from Seattle?
I am really impressed with the way Jason Campbell looks.
Re:#151
Agreed.
Ah, that's the Kyle Boller we know and...are familar with. He fumble on his own 30.
155: You must be kidding about kitna
Holmes TD!
3-20 against the NE Pats. Something tell me that they will convert. Isnt it surprising NE pats would rather have 3-1 rather than 3-20
re: 160
I didn't think so on the initial view, but I don't know if they can overturn it.
Panthers challenging.
I think they will probably win.
Wow. Faulk just got popped.
Maybe not. I don't think he was down.
Wow! That epitomizes how ugly the Texans are. You need 20 yds and you try a short pass!
Re: 166
Ugly?! What are you talking about, Carr's a hunk!
Oh, wait...their football playing? Yeah.
Elbow was down, TD is overturned. 4th and about a yard.
I am a Packer fan. Therefore, I am a staunch supporter of Kitna remaining as the starter.
Reed nearly misses the chipshot FG, but it's 10-0 now.
Joe Thomas: Houston Texan.
Okay, I just the Combos commercial for the first time.
Um..... ok.
NE Offense: One advice. MOVE TOWARDS opponent's endzone., not yours
Looks like the Titans have a hundred people in the box, jags still running though.
Feh. Kitna really isn't the problem, but it makes no sense to play him at QB instead of McCown, who could still improve. (I am telling Lions fans what they already know)
By the way, if I'm leaving out a bunch of "s"s in my posts, it's becaue the " "-key on thi keyboard uck !
Kitna blows. He could be the worst qb in history that has a chance to throw for 4000 yds. His two sizes too large, chemo isn't working, but I'll still blame everyone else for my lack of any pocket presence and three horrible picks, while I pray jesus (Millen)still loves me head just finds way to lose.
#172: And "This Is Our Country" gets some competition for worst commercial in the FO Awards.
Joey Porter drops an easy pick.
I am starting to feel bad for David Carr. Has any QB ever had a more unfortunate first five years in the league?
Joey Porter doesn't take the six points that Chris Weinke tried to give him.
Reggie Bush is just too cute with those spin moves close to the line after first contact. He is a catastrophic, McCallum-esque knee injury waiting to happen.
Driver caught the ball. Terrible reversal.
By the way, the Lions are repeatedly going low when hitting Favre. No complaint because it's football but another example of uneven officiating.
Steelers block the punt!
Penalties on the play...
Not only is DeShaun Foster the worst rusher in the league, but he can't block worth a damn.
And now a blocked punt. I hate Dan Henning so much.
Re: 181
LOL, that made perfect sense to me for the wrong reason; I have a buddy on my soccer team named McCallum who missed the year with a knee injury. I didn't think twice about associating that "Oh, he's talking about Steve's knee injury."
I'm an idiot.
Mike Nugent kicks a 52 yard field goal, millions of Loser League teams get three points.
Ugh. And now the commentators begin to talk about Brady's intangibles. I won't be watching this for much longer if they keep it up...
Bears are 14-3 up in Chicago, and having seen Tampa's Offense in the 1st half it's over.
Gradowski is back on the bench and Tim Ratty is in. What's the minimum attempts for a LL QB?
i got a great idea! how about swapping NE & PHI playbooks.
That means more short passes in the PHI book and more long passes in the NE book
Round of applause for the genius. i can see someone patting on my back. Nope that is a spider!
The referees in this game have done a good job of accounting for the "early releases" that some defensive players have been guilty of due to fears of getting a penalty. Twice now, a play has been whistled down with the QB in the grasp of players but still upright.
Re: 188
Yes, but what you don't know is that--following being cut by the Colts when they realized I was 5'9" 160ish--I have been signed to play OL for the Bucs! Here comes the second half turnaround!
Announcers in Jets game continue to confuse things. Leon Washington had a big PUNT return, not kickoff return. Isn't this the deadly Wilcots duo? Ugh.
Davenport TD off a screen. That's how he should be used.
Davenport on the screen for the TD.
Oh, hell.
The Panthers can't tackle and they have about three plays in their offensive book. This game is over.
The Bears second touchdown was set up by Tampa Bay's pooch kick after their field goal. One of the blockers from the front line peeled back and caught the ball at the 35 yard line and ran it back to the 44, setting up the Bears in great field position. The threat of Devin Hester paid dividends there.
1:43 and the ball on NO 2. If Drew Brees gets a TD, i guess the debate for the MVP will be over
Jabar Gaffney! I knew there was a reason I irrationally defended you in another thread!
Now Karl Hankton is Steve Smith
the Pats look like a Super Bowl team!!!!! oh wait, they're just the latest team to play the Texans.
Great coaching by Fisher. Officials rule a forceout on a Reggie Williams catch inside two minutes, and Fisher calls timeout. The booth in the meanwhile decides to review, and decide he didn't have complete possesion. I don't see how they can get overturn the call on the field with the replay, but now Tennessee is driving and may take the lead inside of being down by 6 or 10.
i think the def pass interference rule should be modified. DPI should mean that the offense gets 5 yds and automatic first down. Also, you could think of penalizing the defense one member (10 players instead of 11) on the next play.
Re: 187... These guys have been the best announcers that I've heard so far this year. Marv Albert has a good rythm for the play-by-play and has been very focused on the game action, very little distraction and not much hyperbole. Gannon has provided some insight into the passing game, i.e. when he pointed out the throw to Brown on a 3rd down being incomplete was brady's fault, was quick, concise and accurate. All in all tlaking about "intangibles", "swagger" and the like are minor offenses for tv announcers these days.
One irritant over the way the some refs handle review.
Redskins' Moss looks like he may have actually caught a low pass that was called incomplete. I think the commentator is right, he may very well have caught the ball, but the view is just not clean enough to meet the standard to say definitively that it didn't touch the ground.
The ref says -- "review shows the ball hit the ground, play stands as called." Uhh, BS on that ref. The review didn't show it hit the ground. In fact, it seems more likely than not that it didn't. Just cause review doesn't overturn the call doesn't mean that it confirms your call.
And Herm Edwards is coaching the Panthers.
Re: 207
I agree, but only because they didn't go overboard with their Brady-praise.
Carolina pisses away a lot of time, and now are settling for a FG with 7 seconds left.
Are the Vikings the team with the lowest number of passes defensed? I can't remember a Viking player actually breaking up a pass recently.
The Bennett catch is overturned, Bironas misses the mid-range FG and the Titans have to settle for down 3 at the half.
Memo to Tampa Bay:
You may wish to cover Desmond Clark. He now has 6 catches for 107 yds and 2 TDs, and the fist half isn't quite over.
for anyone watching the Bears. Has Tampa gotten any pressure on Grossman? Just wondering if he is having lots of time or if there is any pressure.
If Taylor does not win the Defensive Player of the year award., we might as well as scrap it!
Clifton injured. If he doesn't return expect a reinvigorated Lions pass rush.
They just showed the Packers TD on the halftime show...impressive run by Morency!
Did I just hear that Brett Favre threw a touchdown pass to Carlisle Holliday? (or however you spell it)
Taylor has 12.5 sacks, 9 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recoverd for 19 yards, 2 interceptions for 71 yards and 2 TDs.
Back-to-back turnovers in Buffalo as Losman loses the ball on a sack, only for Harrington to be picked off on the next play.
Yikees! Harrington gives it away with an INT!
Granted i have been busy and only seen about 10 plays. But why were 9 of them Brad Jophnson passes?
#80 : To counteract the "don't kick or punt to Devin Hester" tactic, they're also trying to throw the occasional pass to him.
He didn't catch it but they'll be trying to mix it up a bit.
216:
No. If CH breaks one more tackle it would have been 6.
Rats....
correction on #204, it's Kevin Harlan, he sounds just like Marv Albert, without as much bite.
I'm not sure I liked that view of the kickoff. It gave a great view of what look like a gaping hole in the middle of the Steelers' coverage unit. I didn't really want to see that...
223: booooo
The Steelers tackling on that play was just about the worst I've ever seen. How do that many guys get run over by DeShaun Foster?
Re #212
The Bucs have got some pressure, including a Greg Spires sack, where he beat the Bears RT for speed on the outside, but by and large, Grossman has had a reasonable pocket to work with. Not having seen the Bucs this year, what has suprised me is the space in the LB zones in the Tampa D. This is not a good team on either side of the ball.
In comparison to Taylor, Urlacher has 0 Sacks, 3 INTs for 39 Yards, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovered for 1 yard. He is in with as much a chance as Taylor and that is why these awards should be renamed as popularity awards.
I try too hard sometimes, sorry
Pacman Jones with a huge return on the opening kickoff and add 15 yards for the facemask.
I'd love to see a Titans DVOA, separated w/ Pacman and without. He's directly responsible for Tennessee's 10 points so far.
Grrrrr....
Where is McNair?
If the Ravens lose this game I'll never stick up for Boller again.
Re: #212--
Grossman has been sacked twice and pressured a few other times (Fred Miller stinks as pass blocker). But generally he's doing a good job of getting rid of the ball quickly.
Grossman's big key seems to be Desmond Clark. Good Rex finds Clark and the other TEs all over the field. Bad Rex ignores the TEs and prefers throwing to opposing defensive backs.
AAAAAAAAA... if they're just going to hand it off because Brad has little ability as a passer anymore, please, for the love, put a different QB in. Make me interested in this game in some @#$^ing way.
Ron Dayne is actually looking pretty good here. TD Houston.
Ladell Betts is playing with some swagger.
Re: 232
McNair's hand got stepped on, and while it's not broken, he had a pretty nasty cut.
Watching the game at a bar and every time the Pats do something halfway this incredibly h-o-t feminina leaps around like she's on a trampoline.
238: well, then, for the first time in my life, i must say: GO PATRIOTS.
:)
ELLIS HOBBS!!!
Do we have a R Doyle fumble in the end zone in the script? Sadly., nope
Pacman Jones has a Kickoff return for 70 yds (85 incl. 15 yd face mask!), 1 punt return for 8 yds, 1 INT for TD and 0.5 sack. Some more maturity off the field, he could be the next champ bailey
Hobbs for 93 yd kickoff TD return! Special teams and Defense winning it for the Patriots
It's sure hard to run plays when your center gets run over immediately after the snap. Good one, Hartings...
Maybe I'm directing my anger at Boller unjustly.
derek Anderson is 17-20 for 177 yds vs the Ravens. ugh.
re 238..use the camera phone...do it.
Miami offense reaching Oakland levels of suckitude today, albeit without quite so many sacks.
Yes, he and the Browns were tearing it up on this drive and then he got sacked for a loss of seven in the red zone.
242,
It would appear that the Titans' only hope to win is another Pac Man TD. They have less than 100 yards offense.
I sure wish Garrard was accurate
A defensed pass sighting for the Viking D. A early christmas miracle, it is.
Hester has one more big punt return. Great! he is stamping his ticket to next season's pro-bowl as well
Big Ben's last name is apparently "Roethlisberg"
badger where's the bar?
Peppers just blew right past Faneca, but Ben eluded him and found Miller for a nice gain.
TD Braylon Edwards.
Man, how much fun would be had playing if Brett Favre and Hines Ward were on the same team?
239:
On the last TD she jumped around in a circle multiple times tipping her chair over before falling into the lap of an old dude sitting nearby.
Outstanding.
Bucs sack Grossman again. Tampa Bay had just 17 sacks coming into this game and now they have three in a little more than a half.
The Bears start on the Tampa side of the field and call three consecutive pass plays. Dumb.
Run the freakin' ball already!
this thread is useless without pics.
garrard fumble returned for a touchdown.
Reed with the FG, 20-3.
All tied up in Baltimore... yikes.
Titans get a defensive TD on about a 90 yard fumble return. Dumbass raised the ball in celebration about 30 yards out, though.
Anderson is 18 of 21 for 191 yards 2TDs and 1 pick against the Ravens defense.
Anyone watching who can shed a little light on this?
The Ravens are Boller-fied. If only it had happened earlier.
again, where's the bar badger?
TEN could be the giant playoff hopes killer team in the AFC.
give it some thought! NE Pats are there next and i dont think i am confident enough to say that they can beat the TEN hands-down.
Also, come next season - TEN can be the Miami of 2005 season
Boller is a QB god.
Kyle Boller to Demetrius Williams for a 77-yard TD!
Argh, Ravens w/77 yard touchdown pass. Guess it's time for Derek Anderson to work his magic again.
Garrard's second turnover returned for a TD. If they can't fight back and win this game their confidence is going to be absolutely shot.
garrard with two opposite of good plays, the sack before he lost 12 and then the fumble return for td. so he gave away 14 points today, sweet.
A 45-yard punt by Ken Walter?! He's on the juice.
More passes underneath on third and long. Thank you, Dan Henning.
Welcome to Mike McCarthy's Guide for Blowing Home Games to Crummy Opposition.
Today's topic is dumb penalties.
Apparently the Redskins were unsatisfied with the vanilla success they were having offensively, so they pulled out the trick play and lost ten yards on 3rd and seven. That play never had a chance.
Titans still have 85 yards passing and 13 rushing. The Jags have the ball again with 4+ min in the 3dQ. Will Titans get to the 4th Q with fewer than 100 yards and the lead? Is this game exciting or what?
The Joey Harrington Passing Clinic:
5/16 20yds 0TD 1INT.
Outstanding. Where's Cleo Lemon?
Maybe it's Ellis Hobbs Day, not Kevin Faulk day. INT on a crappy back-foot throw by Carr.
Cincinnati.
Trying to attach image.
Can the Offense give me a TD atleast now? For crying out loud, you have all of 29 yds to go
I feel bad for anyone that has Mike Nugent on their Loser League team. Of course, now I have to go check and see if he's on mine....
Crap. He is.
Now we see the error in putting Leftwich on IR. Garrard's confidence is done. 3rd TO returned for a TD.
Garrad with one more defense TD with a INT to Hope. All he used to do was win games. What happened to him?
Garrard just wins games my arse. 2 HORRIBLE pick sixes.
Free agency here we come.
Nice off PI not called by Saints. That "run 15 yards downfield and block the DB" is a great way to get your teammate open.
Well, you have to admit - Garrard throws a lot of TD passes. Just some of them are for the opposing team.
Can't wait to see the highlights of that one.
Memo to all Football analysts:
Please, please - dont tell "All V Young does is win games". Atleast show some knowledge of the game by acknowledging that the defense does win games (like this match!)
ammek:
That was a lame call. That play happens 10 times a game. If Favre goes to Jennings he's wide open as his man followed Driver.
Ridiculous.
Run, Willie. TD.
fast willie parker.
TD! 41 yds ...
Parker with a 41 yard TD run!
Did Big Ben run for a 41 yd rushing TD ?
RE #286,
Who on earth are Jax gonna pick up in Free Agency? Jon Kitna? Joey Harrington? Brad Johnson? Andrew Walter?
The Jaguars have a good young QB on the roster. Who are you going to get that's better that Leftwich?
My my! NFL gamecenter got one up on me! it showed Big Ben for a 41 yd td and once i wrote a comment, refreshed to show willie parker
i think that if ben had to run 41 yards for a TD ... the play would still be happening.
285 and 286,
The "Garrard just wins" swagger is being trumped by the "Vince Young just wins games" swagger. Those 3 defensive TDs by the Titans are purely a function of Vince Young's leadership and ability to motivate. Without Vince, Titans would be down 2 TDs at least.
Jags 59 plays 249 yds and 34 minutes T.O.P.
Titans 23 plays 90 yds and 10 minutes T.O.P.
Who's winning?
T Brady: Why pass for 3 yards when you need 10? Pls understand., you are better than Carr.
