It used to be you could watch all national games using the Yahoo Sports app, even ones on cable or streaming services. But it appears now Amazon Prime is the only way to watch these games. Oh well. Too bad it happens just when we are finally free of Buck and Aikman calling the games...

So far Amazon has also made the Thursday games available on twitch for free as well.

You really want a FG vs the Chiefs on 4th and short?

I am wondering if the NFL has finally found a way to get people not to watch, basically not to have access.

I am recently remarried, my wife has Amazon Prime so that I can watch this event.   Shopping and football fan is not exactly a mix, at least not for me.  If I have 100 things to do shopping would have to rank 101st.  Amazon Prime and the NFL are probably not a good mix.

Everyone shops, though. Even those who don't enjoy shopping do it because it's a necessity.

I was curious how many people have Amazon Prime. The sources say over 150 million Americans have Prime. Access seems to be widespread.

It's only about shopping if you don't look any further than that. Amazon has done a very good job building up the Prime Video library over the years, making the Prime membership into a pretty solid package.

I have Amazon Prime, but it also turns out that TSN got the rights to show TNF in Canada.

Bezos has money to burn.  Amazon dropped a billion to make a LotR series.  Exclusive rights to NFL telecasts is probably more lucrative than that ever will be.

A field goal and a punt, each on 4th and 2. Who is that guy on the Chargers sideline and what did he do with Staley?

#6 by jheidelberg // Sep 15, 2022 - 9:09pm

Now you are punting on 4th and 2.  What happened to the Staley of last year?  This is not a blueprint of how to beat the Chiefs.

Jonathan Taylor with KC instead of CEH.

If you are going to use a 1st round pick on a RB, he better be the best RB in football.  Barkley, Michel and Edwards-Helaire all first rounders, Jonathan Taylor, 9 picks later than CEH.

So the last 3 drives between the two teams have ended in punts on 4th and 2, 4th and 1 and 4th and 2, I am expecting FO to have a field day with this fact.

But KC is being too aggressive. Give LAC the ball back with 3 timeouts.

LAC don't fair catch it and kneel like cowards anyway.

Lots of talk about how accurate he’s been, given that a solid 30% of his passes have been way off. I dunno. Reminds me of a slightly better version of 2019 Allen tonight. Chargers D has been the best unit on the field tonight; Chiefs D has been the worst.

Chiefs D were terrible. They missed tackles everywhere and got bailed out on the int-TD by a classic "Chargers being Chargers" moment, when Everett wasn't able to tap out while he was having trouble catching his breath.

So far its Chargers 17, Chiefs 7, Hangs 4, Kickouts 2.

#15 by jheidelberg // Sep 15, 2022 - 10:03pm

That is 2 INT’s overturned by penalties, one on replay review, its time for him to hit some KC receivers, not Charger defenders

#17 by jheidelberg // Sep 15, 2022 - 10:15pm

Thats 3 Charger punts on 4th and 2 and a FG on 4th and 3, has Anthony Lynn invaded Staley’s body?

Edit:  And now Reid has punted twice on 4th and 1.

Edit:  A FG from the 1 are you kidding me?

Maybe believe in Herbert and Mahomes?

It’s been a great game, but it should have been even better.

Okay, this is just bizarre. KC kicking a FG at the 1? What is going on tonight?

#20 by JS // Sep 15, 2022 - 10:30pm

I guess both coaches believe in their defenses, allowing them to go back to making the wrong decisions.

Points: 0

#22 by jheidelberg // Sep 15, 2022 - 10:34pm

They may believe in their defenses, but they sure do not believe in their running games and rightfully so

Points: 0

#27 by Cythammer // Sep 15, 2022 - 10:39pm

Now Reid will probably believe that faith was justified.

... But of course, going for it on fourth arguably is a way of having faith in the defense. You are trusting them to make the stop and give you back the ball even if you do fail.

#53 by KnotMe // Sep 16, 2022 - 12:54pm

Esp from the 1 yard line. If your D can't get a stop across the entire field you got issues. Neither D really seemed that gassed at that point either.

Kansas City Cowards on that 4th. Ugly.  By far the clearest go for it tonight.

The only fourth-and-short punt I didn't hate was Staley's decision to punt from around midfield with less than a minute left before halftime. The rest, though? Ugh.

#23 by jheidelberg // Sep 15, 2022 - 10:36pm

Take a FG at the 1, give up 39 yards of field position, Chargers drive the field and throw a pick 6.

#24 by ImNewAroundThe… // Sep 15, 2022 - 10:36pm

Respect trying to tackle. May have missed but remained unhurt, as most do it seems.

Oh wow, turns out Gerald Everett was tired after back to back catches and wanted to be subbed out before running sloppy on that route. Yikes, gotta do better Staley. Listen to your players, if for nothing else but to prevent game clinchers like that!

Points: 0

#52 by rpwong // Sep 16, 2022 - 12:43pm

That's on the TE coach. Staley and Lombardi are thinking about the play, and the assistants are supposed to interrupt if they see one of their guys needing to sub out. From the way that Everett gestured and turned around to go back to the line, it seems like he couldn't get the TE coach's attention.

I saw this while at the gym on closed caption, but players are instructed to SCUBA, that is dive, act hurt, cramped or whatever it takes to stop play and be replaced.  Everett was clearly unable to play, Herbert had no idea or he would have air mailed the pass out of bounds.

So, it's less the throwing motion and likely more scrambling that Herbert can't do, cause that was a great throw

Absolute laser by Herbert to Carter there just before the two-minute warning.

Those ribs are going to be an issue for the Chargers going forward. Another season of high expectations and underachieving seems very likely.

Points: 0

#35 by Johnny Ocean // Sep 15, 2022 - 11:41pm

Maybe someone should explain to Staley that the season is more than beating the Chiefs in week 2.  Herbert has been getting hit all day and his line is now pretty beat up.  The general "go for broke" approach of the team to every down is just going to cost them wins down the road due to injuries.  It's cool that Derwin James can body press Kelce and slam him to the turf but is that a smart play given the risk of injury?

Points: 0

#37 by JIPanick // Sep 16, 2022 - 12:35am

They should try going for broke on 4th down, not with the star QB's ribs.

Ho hum, another gut-wrenching Chargers loss. That one will no doubt hurt when it comes to deciding division/seeding placings in January.

The Chargers defence is nasty. Mahomes was hassled all game long, and coverage seemed tight throughout. Another day he could easily have thrown 2/3 picks.

The offense, I dunno. Clearly Herbert is an exceptionally talented passer, but the down-to-down efficiency often seems lacking.

Not sure what led Staley to be so conservative (Reid we know can revert that way). Very disappointing, and probably costly.

I was really impressed with the Chargers defense. When the edge rushers beat the tackles, I counted at least 3 potential interceptions that didn't happen.

This game completely tilts in the other direction if any one of those multiple dropped ints goes the other way. I give credit to Mahomes; he came away with a lot of third and long conversions.

As for Herbert - I'll agree with you. He's not yet a refined enough down to down passer, but I would say that the Chargers are missing an apex level receiver/tight end to really turbo charge the offense. It doesn't matter much in most games, but it becomes the difference when facing the absolute best teams. And unfortunately, he's going to be dealing with Mahomes for as long as he remains a Charger.

Overall, it was a well fought game and I came away impressed with both sides. Frankly, I was impressed with the Chiefs defense which looks and feels solid. With the offense they have, that's really all you need to be an inner sanctum contender.

How was everyone’s streaming quality? Mine was close to unwatchable. I have Google fiber, so it wasn’t bandwidth, but the video stuttered so much it was more like watching a series of stills. I can’t believe they would spend a billion dollars a year on the rights, get one of the best opening games possible, then not back it up with sufficient infrastructure. Doesn’t give me great confidence in AWS either….

I think it's something with the initial connection with Amazon. I tried their whole "multiple streams" thing for like a hot second in the first quarter and I got about a 25% success rate in having things work well. Most of the time the audio was out of sync (jeez, Amazon, it's 2022) but twice it was stuttering frequently as well. I gave up pretty quickly and then just closed/relaunched the initial stream until it was working reasonably and left it there.

I was so far behind due to freezing of the picture that my grandson texted me about Kelce being body slammed and I saw it a few minutes later.  I had to get out and get back in.

Like I posted during the game, hung four times (white circle of despair), got completely booted out of the connection twice. And I have the Xtra super deluxe mega internet cable package. The picture was sometimes very sharp, and sometimes had that videotape-feel to it.

I watched on my iPad, was forced to watch thru the Prime Video app vs. browser (also forced to close vpn).  Started watching in animal hospital ER w/cell connection, some hiccups.  Switched to their shared wifi.  No hangs, buffers, etc.  Very hi quality video.  Then paused stream, closed iPad, drove home, and resumed on home wifi.  Picked back up w/o a hitch.  Once picture went to lo-res, and once it hung but mostly stayed hi quality.  Was reasonably satisfied even though I hate Amazon and uninstalled their spying app as soon as the game was done.
