Off The Charts Podcast: January 19

Hey, it's time to preview the conference championships with the Off The Charts Podcast. How special is this year's final four of top quarterbacks? Has Aaron Rodgers really been better than Matt Ryan over the last two months? What's the clear strategy for Green Bay's defense to try to stop Ryan? Why should the Steelers be worried about the Patriots run game? And lots more.

I was somewhat surprised by the claim that PIT QB pressure hasn't improved over the season. Over the first 10 games, they had 13 sacks. Over the last 6 games, they had 25.

Has the NFL talked at all about implementing optical tracking (or a similar system) in the NFL as has been implemented in the NBA? The reason I ask is that it would be one way to quantify how good Rodgers is at fitting balls into incredibly tight and/or nonexistent windows, versus the wide open receivers that Matt Ryan is throwing to.

The Packers OL offers better pass protection, but other than that every aspect of the talent on the Atlanta offense is superior; it's remarkable that Rodgers and Ryan have anything approaching similar advanced stats. Ryan has been spectacular, but Rodgers is regularly otherworldly and I don't think we currently have the stats to distinguish between those two adjectives.

In a sense we do have the stats..

Ryan has played this good once in his career...close to twice

Rodgers plays like this every year
