Brandon Staley's first year as an NFL head coach was a mixed bag. Justin Herbert developed into an MVP-caliber quarterback, and Staley proved to be one of the boldest -- and most often correct, per the analytics -- fourth-down decision makers in the league. But the Chargers' run defense was feeble, Joe Lombardi's play calls in the red zone, on some of those fourth-down conversion attempts and elsewhere was suspect, and the Chargers fell just short of the playoffs in a stunning Week 18 overtime loss to the Raiders. The Chargers' offseason agenda appears to be rather simple: fix the run defense, fix the short-yardage offense, compete for a Super Bowl in 2022. -- Mike Tanier
