The Chargers started the season 3-1 and could have started 4-0 if not for multiple red-zone catastrophes against the Cowboys. Justin Herbert's development is continuing on pace, Brandon Staley's defense is beginning to take shape, and the Chargers are enjoying decent injury luck for once. (It helps that Derwin James now gets elective surgery on the sideline). The Chargers still have their flaws, and the competitive AFC West won't do them any favors, but they appear more capable of staying in the playoff picture -- and challenging the Chiefs for the AFC West crown -- than the injury-plagued Broncos or smoke-and-mirrors Raiders. -- Mike Tanier
