The Raiders overcame a tumultuous early season, stayed in the Wild Card race with the help of opponent's COVID outbreaks and gobs of pass interference penalties, surprised the Chargers in the season finale and even threw a scare into the Cincinnati Bengals before losing 26-19 in the first round of the playoffs. But Pythagorean Wins and Estimated Wins suggest what anyone who objectively watched the Raiders already suspected: the 2021 Raiders were a 7-8 win team that caught a bunch of late-season on-field breaks. The offseason should bring a new braintrust and new direction to a franchise that needs to move on from Jon Gruden's vanity project and start competently rebuilding its roster from the ground up. -- Mike Tanier.
