The Year in Social Media

We run The Year in Quotes in every edition of Football Outsiders Almanac. As a companion piece to this year's edition of Year in Quotes, we've decided to compile some of our favorite social media posts from the past year for a look at the Year in Social Media. You can find this year's Year in Quotes, along with much more, in Football Outsiders Almanac 2021.

JUUUST OUT OF REACH

—I don't think this is what the Minnesota Vikings social media team had in mind when creating the "catch a pass from Kirk Cousins" TikTok challenge.

ASLEEP ON THE JOB

— Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan caught one of the rookies asleep after a long day of training camp.

HAMILFIN: A MIAMI MUSICAL

—Miami Dolphins defensive end Christian Wilkins isn't throwing away his shot to talk Hamilton with teammates at training camp.

THE MORE THINGS CHANGE, THE MORE THEY STAY THE SAME

—ESPN College GameDay host Lee Corso wanted to make his socially distanced set feel a little more like normal, so he got cardboard cutouts of the rest of his crew to sit alongside him during broadcasts.

BIG ENOUGH SCREEN FOR YOU?

—The Los Angeles Chargers take advantage of the 120-yard long 4K HDR video system in SoFi Stadium by playing some Fall Guys on the screens overlooking the field.

SAME, JOE. SAME

—New York Giants head coach Joe Judge snuck in a drawing of a Giants fan while using the teleprompter.

THE RULEBOOK SAYS YOU CAN'T HAVE MORE THAN TWO PUMPS

—Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers should've been flagged for excessive celebration in this ode to Key & Peele's Hingle McCringleberry.

THROWING THE DEEP BALL AND HITTING THE HIGH NOTE

—Some benevolent soul blessed us this season by digging up footage of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins singing and performing in high school.

SHAKING THE RUST OFF

—Retired Pro Bowl running back Justin Forsett saw his opportunity to return to the league amidst a string of running back injuries, put on his cleats for the first time in a while, and promptly headed right back inside after failing to hurdle a Little Tikes truck

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON

—Even Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen's own son got swept up into the Griddy hype.

—Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady dropped the promotional material we didn't know we needed for the NFC divisional-round matchup between the Bucs and the New Orleans Saints

BALTIMORE IS STILL TIPPIN'

—Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson couldn't help himself when asked questions by a reporter who happens to share a name with Houston rapper Mike Jones.

PUT ON A HAPPY FACE

—Green Bay Packers defensive end Za'Darius Smith sure looks like he's having a fun time.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THROW OF BRADY'S CAREER

—During the Tampa Bay Buccaneers aquatic Super Bowl parade, Tom Brady makes the throw of the lifetime transferring the Lombardi Trophy across boats. The waters below said boats were an estimated 80 feet deep.

SIMULATION GLITCH

—A 1983 newspaper headline resurfaced from a story detailing a secretive elbow surgery underwent by Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw. In order to avoid attention, Bradshaw checked into the Louisiana hospital under a pseudonym: Thomas Brady.

A.J. BROWN WOULD CRUSH IT ON SHARK TANK

—Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown was one of many players attempting to recruit Julio Jones to their team, but none did it as aggressively as he did. While I don't think Brown had any pull in the front office, he can take full credit for the Julio trade after this video.

POST OF THE YEAR

—There has never been a more perfect athlete endorsement than Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman Forrest Lamp getting his own signature Forrest Lamp.
